Here at West End Vets, we are able to perform laparoscopic “keyhole” surgery.
Laparoscopic or keyhole procedures have been performed on humans for many years and have significant benefits over traditional open surgeries. The same benefits apply for our patients and we are proud to be able to offer your pet the highest quality of care.
Some of the procedures we can offer include:
- Laparoscopic spays
- Laparoscopic biopsies
- Removal of retained testicles
- Abdominal exploratory surgery
Laparoscopic “keyhole” spay
In contrast with traditional neutering, keyhole surgery is a less invasive and less traumatic method. It is performed by placing a camera and specialised instruments through two small incisions in the abdomen. During a keyhole bitch spay the two ovaries are removed (called an ovariectomy).
The main benefits of keyhole surgery are:
- Less post-operative pain and discomfort
- Quicker healing/recovery time
- Smaller incisions
- Reduced risk of complications and infection
We are extremely proud to be one of only a handful of practices in Scotland who can perform this surgery.
This service is now available, not only to clients of West End Vets, but we are also accepting external referrals from other practices.
